EU Extends Deadline For No-Deal Brexit Flights

European Commission Passes Legislation To Allow Flights To Continue To Operate

The European Commission has passed legislation that will allow U.K.-based airlines to continue to operate to EU destinations through October 24, 2020 regardless of what happens to Brexit over the next few months.

The legislation comes as the U.K. government and the House of Commons continue to disagree over what happens if no deal on Brexit is reached, according to a report from Buying Business Travel.

“We welcome these proposals from the European Commission to extend arrangements allowing flights to continue between the UK and EU after Brexit,” said U.K. transport secretary Grant Shapps .

“Connectivity is at the forefront of this government’s vision for a global, outward-facing Britain and these extensions between the U.K. and EU ensure that it will be business as usual when travelling and trading for the foreseeable future.”

Shapps said that the Department of Transport will reciprocate, extending U.K. air traffic rights for all EU airlines until October 2020.
