Airborne 10.16.19: Sikorsky RAIDER X, Learjet 75, ADS-B Rebates

Also: Gone West-Alexei Leonov, STOL ATR 42-600S, AEA Connect Conference, Boeing BoD Turmoil

Sikorski has just introduced RAIDER X. They call this bird an “agile, lethal and survivable compound coaxial helicopter.”

The Raider X program offers provides increased performance including; highly responsive maneuverability, enhanced low-speed hover, off-axis hover, and level acceleration and braking. While state-of-the-art digital design and manufacturing is already in use on other Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky production programs such as CH-53K, CH-148 and F-35; this program will reportedly enable the Army to not only lower the acquisition cost, but enable rapid, affordable upgrades to stay ahead of the evolving threat. Bombardier will showcase the new Learjet 75 Liberty, with a full-size interior mock-up at the 2019 NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latest member of the iconic Learjet family was unveiled earlier this summer. It is expected to enter service in 2020. The Learjet 75 Liberty is reportedly the fastest aircraft in the light jet segment with a top speed of Mach 0.81, and a range of 2,080 nautical miles. If you were holding out and still hoping for one of those $500 rebates from the FAA for equipping your aircraft with ADS-B, you're pretty much out of luck. The agency announced late last week that all 20,000 rebates offered to GA aircraft owners to equip their aircraft with a new surveillance technology have been issued and are no longer available. Aircraft owners who have already reserved their rebate, but not claimed it yet with installation, will be allotted the specified time needed to complete the requirements for the rebate. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
