Focusing On Integrated Helicopter Solutions And Dome Display

Esterline Avionics Systems is showcasing its advanced displays and CMC Electronics brand integrated helicopter solutions at this year’s CANSEC.  On show for the first time is Esterline’s helicopter demonstrator featuring an extensive range of the company’s core avionics capabilities, integrated with an Esterline TREALITY brand dome visualization system.  The dome simulator will enhance the opportunity for visitors to experience the company’s integrated helicopter solutions.

The core of the company’s showcased Integrated helicopter solutions includes Smart Multi-Function Displays (SMFD), Flight Management Systems (FMS), TacView Portable Mission Displays, Global Positioning System (GPS) sensors, Doppler Velocity Sensors (DVS), mission computers, Electronic Flight Bags and Aircraft Information Servers, and a wide range of high-quality display products.

The latest generation 6”x8” Smart Multi-Function Display known as the MFD-3068 is an open architecture platform, featuring next-generation MOSArt (Modular Open System Architecture) middleware built with non-proprietary industry standards for the partitioning of applications (ARINC 653) and the latest in Multi-Core Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS). The display is complemented by Esterline supplied software applications (PFD, Navigation, etc.), customer supplied applications or both. With an optical quality second to none, the display offers true 8-bit colour rendition with optical performance stabilized over its design life-time and its extended operating temperature envelope (+70C continuous).

Esterline’s CMC Electronics communication, navigation, surveillance / air traffic management (CNS/ATM) aligned solutions extend the operational life of aircraft and rotorcraft. The CMA-9000 FMS is a field-proven, highly integrated and flexible product that provides flight management and multi-sensor navigation throughout all phases of flight as well as radio management and many specialized functions that help reduce pilot workload during mission-critical applications.  The CMA-9000 supports both military and civil navigation modes, with compliance to the latest standards for Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) approaches.

The CMC Electronics CMA-5024 GPS Landing System Sensor meets all the requirements for ADS-B Out in addition to being an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), civil certified Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The CMA-5024 provides Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) SBAS GPS capability from departure to approach, including WAAS/SBAS LPV CAT-1 equivalent approach capability, which complies with published CNS/ATM navigational mandates. The CMA-5024 is provisioned for growth to the CMA-6024 GBAS capable unit with a built-in VHF Data Broadcast (VDB) receiver.

The CMC Electronics brand CMA-2082MC is a self-contained multifunction control and display unit that integrates and provides centralized control of navigation sensors, communications radios, displays, mission avionics and aircraft systems.  The CMA-2082MC is currently installed and flying on the U.S. Army UH-60M, HH-60M and S-70i export version of the UH-60M.  In 2016, the CMA-2082MC was selected for a United States Air Force (USAF) upgrade program to replace legacy Control Display Units currently flying on the USAF fleet of HH-60G Pave Hawk Search-and-Rescue helicopters.

The TacView Portable Mission Display increases crew efficiency by hosting applications that provide situational awareness and reduce cockpit workload. TacView can interface with a number of radio and Satcom data link systems, and provide access to moving maps, mission planning systems, approach plates, checklists, flight and maintenance manuals, as well as host any Windows based applications. Designed for autonomous operation, TacView can be installed and removed in seconds. It provides the means to quickly deploy new capability and functionality at a fraction of the time and cost of alternative systems.   

Esterline’s TREALITY products are synonymous with the design, manufacture and world-wide support of high-performance visual systems for military and commercial flight simulation and training. The Esterline TREALITY TD-Series transportable dome display is an easily deployable simulation system that is designed to fit in a standard ISO container.  The unique TREALITY  semi-rigid screen technology was developed for simulation applications.
