Two Aircraft Involved In Midair Collision In Western Georgia

Authorities Say Three People Were Fatally Injured

Two aircraft collided late Wednesday morning as both were apparently attempting to land at West Georgia Regional Airport (KCTJ) in Carroll County, GA. Three people were reportedly fatally injured in the accident, including a flight instructor and her student.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the two aircraft have been identified as a Diamond DA20C1 and a Beech F33A Bonanza.

KCTJ is an uncontrolled airport. Carroll County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Richards told the paper that it appeared one plane "set down on top of the other" as both attempted to land. There was no post-impact fire.

The instructor and her student, who was a man, were reportedly operating out of a flight school in Newnan, GA. A clergyman who is a friend of the family identified the flight instructor as Taylor Stone (pictured). Her Facebook page indicates that she worked for Falcon Aviation Academy. A second victim was identified by the Associated Press as 79-year-old William Lewis Lindsey of College Park. The name of the third person involved has not been released.

Fox News reports that Carroll County Fire Chief Scott Blue said that the wreckage was so entangled that it was originally thought to be just one airplane.
