One-G Simulation Introduces VR Torrance 44 ATP

Production Model At HAI 2018 Heli-Expo

Flight simulation company one-G simulation is introducing the production model Torrance 44 ATP (Augmented Training Platform) at the HAI 2018 Heli- Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Torrance 44 is a cutting-edge training device based on the Robinson 44 , which merges Virtual Reality (VR) technology with flight simulation, creating a highly immersive augmented reality flight deck.

Since debuting the Torrance 44 prototype at the 2017 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, one-G simulation has worked vigorously to fine tune the production model utilizing expert feedback from more than 50 seasoned helicopter pilots and flight instructors. The final product is a device unique in its ability to accurately perform takeoffs, hover, autorotation, sloped landings and low level maneuvers.

The Torrance 44 device includes 360 degree visuals (through the HTC Vive HMD) and the 1G-Wave aerodynamic haptic feedback system providing unparalleled pilot situational awareness and visual references. The VR features solve the problem of limited visual reference that are problematic with other helicopter training devices. one-G simulation Vice President Dave Rider says, “This device is designed specifically to provide a highly immersive training platform for both primary rotorcraft and transitioning rotorcraft student pilots learning how to hover, maneuver, and perform many of the emergency procedures needed to safely operate a helicopter.”

Product development, fabrication and assembly are handled in-house at the one-G simulation HQ, including the avionics and associated software applications. The Torrance 44 ATP is in production and available for order now. The Torrance 44 AATD will be available Q3 2018.
