Vintage 182 Down In North Carolina

Grandfather Killed, Three Relatives Injured

The NTSB is investigating Saturday's crash of a Cessna 182A (file photo of type, right) near Hays (NC). Of the four people on board, the 70-year old pilot was killed. The other three were injured.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said aircraft had just taken off from the Wilkes County Airport when the accident occurred. There was no indication of why the aircraft went down. Thomas Wood was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His 38-year old son, John and his 12-year old grandson, Seth Lytle, were reported in serious condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Wood's son-in-law, 45-year old Thomas Lytle, was treated and released.

The NTSB was on the scene investigating the accident.
