ONE Aviation hopes to have its latest personal jet, the EA700 also known at Project Canada, in production in about 18 months to two years. That was the "psuedo-schedule" given to ANN CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell by ONE Aviation CEO Alan Klapmeier at AirVenture in July.
That schedule depends on man factors, not least among them financing, Klapmeier said. But since AirVenture, the EA500 with the Canada wing and tail flew for the first time September 1, 2017.
The flight lasted approximately 1.5 hours. Handling qualities were evaluated during transitions between all configurations. Maneuvering and basic aircraft flying qualities were evaluated at altitudes up to 15,000 ft. The plane performed flawlessly and all test condition results were as expected. "The aircraft felt very solid,” said Jerry Chambers, Chief Test Pilot and PIC for the flight, “a testament to the efforts of the engineering and build teams."
Changes to the wing include the overall 4-foot increase in wingspan and reshaping of the inboard wing airfoils and planform. But expected shape of the production EA700 wing tips have not been included in this modification.
