CRJ Slides Off Runway; Passengers Delayed All Over
If your travel plans this weekend
included stops at airports in the New England region of the United
States... you may be reading this story on your laptop computer, as
you wile away the hours spent stuck in the terminal awaiting your
delayed flight.
A major snowstorm that dropped several inches of snow in New
Jersey, Rhode Island, Conneticut and New York this weekend caused a
ripple effect of delays and cancellations extending into Monday,
although many agreed it could have been a lot worse.
"It’s a mess, but a manageable mess," Pennsylvania State
University meteorologist Fred Gadomski told The New York Times.
Some forecasts ahead of the storm called for up to two feet of
snow, a lot less than what actually fell.
The precipitation was enough to cause arrival delays at New
York-area airports of up to 90 minutes, though airport officials
said departure delays were minimal. Further north, Albany
International Airport was closed part of Sunday... while half of
all scheduled flights Sunday morning at Connecticut's Bradley
International Airport were cancelled, though things returned to
more-or-less normal by the afternoon.
The weather was also a factor in a landing accident at T.F.
Green Airport in Providence, RI. A CRJ-200, operated by Air
Wisconsin as US Airways Express Flight 3758, slid off the runway on
landing Sunday night.
None of the 31 passengers or three crewmembers onboard the plane
were injured, reported The Providence Journal, though as of Monday
morning the runway remained closed.
