PA Governor Corbett Announces State Airport Investments

Dollars Allocated To Improve Safety, Facilities At 18 Airports

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett on Thursday announced a $4 million state investment that will upgrade facilities and improve safety at 18 Pennsylvania airports.

"Aviation provides nearly 5 percent of Pennsylvania's jobs," Governor Corbett (pictured) said. "Investing in these improvements and safety measures helps those thousands of people do their jobs better, and will improve airport operations."

The $4 million in grants are provided by PennDOT's aviation development program. Funding for the aviation program comes from the state's jet fuel tax and leverages more than $1.3 million in local matching funds. Public-use airports in the state are eligible for the aviation development program.

The state has 133 public-use airports and heliports and 15 of those airports have scheduled commercial service.
