Icon A5 'Dead In The Water' After Landing

Started Taking On Water After Landing Off Sanibel Island

The pilot of an Icon A5 ran into problems after landing in the water near Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel Island, FL Friday.

Television station WINK reports that the airplane is a rental aircraft. FAA records indicate that it is owned by Jet Mist Holdings LLC, which is incorporated in Connecticut. The airplane was issued an airworthiness certificate on December 20 of last year.

According to the report, the plane landed safely in San Carlos Bay, but began taking on water. It became too heavy to take off again.

The airplane was reportedly towed to the beach near the Sanibel fishing pier by a boater.

The plane did not leak any fluids into the water. Plans were to pump out the water and repair the plane, though no update on the story has been posted.
