Certified: Diamond's DA20 With Aspen Avionics

Diamond Earns Transport Canada OK For DA20-C1/Aspen Combo

The fine folks of Transport Canada have certified Diamond's DA20-C1, equipped with the Aspen Avionics EFD 1000 Primary Flight Display (PFD). The DA20's instrument layout retains the conventional Airspeed, Altitude, Turn & Bank and Vertical Speed Indicators, with the Aspen mounted in the center of the conventional 6-pack.

With this layout and the ability to suppress the Aspen's HSI functions, Airspeed and Altitude tapes, a traditional instrument scan can be taught, while activation of the more advanced functions gives a meaningful introduction to glass cockpits.

“The ability to teach conventional instrument scan, offer an introduction to glass cockpits, while benefitting from more reliable solid state technology, make the DA20 with Aspen a particularly flexible tool for any flight training operation,” said Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft Industries.

ANN's Jim Campbell flew a 200 mile trip the other day under Aspen EFD guidance and came away VERY impressed with the Aspen display and the well-thought out interface. We're looking forward to furnishing a report on the Aspen-equipped DA20 shortly...
