Port-a-Cool: Portable Evaporative Cooling Units

An Economical Way To Cool Your Hangar Or Shop

By  Dave Juwel

Some people are against ECU's because they think they're like a swamp cooler. If you feel that way, you need to take another look at them. Evaporative coolers have evolved  into a much more energy efficient and effective cooling unit. This is because the advanced curing process and resin technology of the pads maximize the interaction between air and water for superior cooling.

Modern ECU's require no more electricity than most household utilities with an hourly operating cost between 0.05¢ and 0.28¢. As you can see, unlike an air conditioner, ECU's are easier on both the environment and budget.

Port-A-Cool has several versions to meet whatever size space you need to cool from a small office/work area to a complete hanger area. They're not air conditioning, which is good because they do not use chemicals and refrigerants, but like an air conditioner, they can keep an area cool, and even drop the temperature as much as 30 degrees.

And the great thing about evaporative coolers - they're portable! You can move them around within your space, or move them to a completely different place. Put them anyplace from 500 to 4,000 square feet where air conditioning is either impractical or not conducive.

For an example of the cost, their Hurricane Evaporative Unit cools up to 3500 sq. ft., with a 14,500 CFM airflow for $3,495.00.
