Sportair USA Says ForeSight Is An Affordable EVS

Enhanced Vision Systems For LSA's, Experimental Aircraft, And Warbirds

SportairUSA has taken the wraps off ForeSight EVS, which it calls a leap forward in affordable enhanced vision systems. Powered by a proven infrared camera core from FLIR, the ForeSight EVS cuts in half the cost of integrated forward-looking-infrared systems for sport aviation.

The ForeSight EVS is an aircraft grade, tough, hermetically-sealed system, designed and tested for the extreme environments experienced in flight. The camera is sunlight safe and incorporates a heated lens. The faired housing mounts like an antenna on any suitable upper or lower surface of wing or fuselage.

Bill Canino, SportairUSA’s president, introduced the ForeSight EVS today to the experimental, light sport and warbird aviation communities. “We are focused on safety above all else. Our decision to develop an affordable forward-looking-infrared system is the next step for SportairUSA, bringing the
cost of this remarkable technology within reach of those of us who fly primarily for fun.”

Everything needed for a typical installation is in the box, including the camera, wiring harness and a customer choice of cockpit displays, resulting in a plug-and-play EVS solution. Displays typically packaged with the system include the 7” Springer, a slide-out LCD monitor which may be mounted in the panel or on the glare shield, or the 5” Flipper, an FAA approved folding display for glare shield mounting. The ForeSight EVS will also display directly on the screen of any EFIS or MFD that accepts an external video feed.

ForeSight’s infrared technology sees through the night and penetrates far into atmospheric obstructions. Corporate and military aircraft have utilized this technology for years as a supplement to cockpit navigation systems. ForeSight enhances the pilot’s ability to see terrain, runway obstructions and other aircraft at long distances. “With infrared enhanced vision you will pick out that coyote on the runway at night, or the Cherokee coming at you through the daytime haze on long final as you make your base turn,” Canino said.

ForeSight allows you to:
• See trees, terrain and other obstacles from farther away, thereby reducing the risk of CFIT.
• See more of the runway environment, night and day, in good weather and bad.
• Enjoy improved visibility in haze, precipitation and “brown out” conditions.
• Detect runway and taxiway incursions – see animals, people, vehicles, and aircraft.

The ForeSight EVS can be seen in SportairUSA’s exhibit space #68 at AirVenture 2009 in Oshkosh.
