Airplane Among Items Seized In Drug Bust

Police Say Aircraft Transported Ecstasy, Cocaine

Three Canadians -- two from British Columbia and one from Ontario -- have been charged after police seized nearly $9 million worth of drugs, guns and an airplane from an area north of Toronto.

CBC News reports police seized 49 kilograms of cocaine, over 700,000 ecstasy tablets, $219,000 in cash and weapons, plus a twin-engine plane, type unknown, police say was used to transport drugs between a location in B.C. and Barrie, Ontario.

On March 29, undercover officers spotted men transporting large suitcases between two sports utility vehicles in a parking lot between Highways 400 and 7.  When the officers searched the suitcases, officers found them filled with ecstasy pills.  The discovery of the drugs also led to the search of a home in Vaughan.

Heinz Werner Goertzen, 36, of Abbotsford, B.C., Michael Rouch, 59, of Chilliwack, BC, and Michael Newman, 37, of Vaughan, Ontario, are facing charges that include possession for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking a controlled substance.
