Aero-TV: CERTIFIED Dynon Avionics! - Upsetting The Avionics Apple Cart

Dynon Announces Certified Avionics For GA At AirVenture…

Dynon Avionics unveiled a new line of certified avionics for part 23 airplanes at AirVenture this summer.

Michael Schofield, Marketing Director for Dynon Avionics, told ANN CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell at Oshkosh that the line is lead by the company's flagship EFIS system.

Dynon began working on the certified line shortly after the first STC was granted in April, 2016. Schofield said the company realized that attitudes at the FAA were changing with respect to certification of avionics, making the process go more smoothly.

The Dynon Certified line features SkyView HDX, Dynon’s flagship integrated avionics platform that replaces legacy equipment with a modern, affordable system. SkyView HDX can do it all: Primary Flight Display with Synthetic Vision and Angle-of-Attack; Autopilot; Engine Monitor with all EGTs/CHTs, Lean Assist, and Fuel Computer; Mapping with Flight Planning, ADS-B Traffic and Weather, and Electronic Flight Bag; Mode S Transponder with 2020-compliant ADS-B Out, Battery Backup and more. SkyView HDX’s bright touch screen works with ergonomic knobs and buttons to offer positive, intuitive controls in all flight conditions.

The system will be easy to install because it was initially designed for homebuilders. The system will cost in the low $20,000 installed Schofield said.

The system is already accepted by homebuilding pilots flying IFR, so Schofield said there will likely not be any resistance from pilots switching from traditional certified avionics to the new Dynon Certified system.

Installing SkyView HDX does not change aircraft certification basis or operating limitations. All primary flight instruments, including attitude, are fully IFR capable. The system also includes an independent backup EFIS. SkyView HDX is additionally compatible with popular IFR navigators like the Avidyne IFD series and the GTN/GNS series.
