CubCrafter Unveils new Lightweight, High-Output Engine for EX, FX Series

Cub Experts Take Their Hallmark CC340 to the Next Level with Fuel Injection, Light Weight, and Ground-Adjustable Fixed Prop

CubCrafters unveiled their new lightweight engine for the Carbon Cub, offering buyers a fixed pitch variant of its popular 186 hp engine.

The new offering, the CC363i F/P builds on the company's efforts to "add lightness" to the Lycoming O-320 that originally resulted in their 180 hp CC340, further refined, modernized, and simplified with fuel injection and a fixed prop. The new CC636i F/P boasts a higher displacement, lower compression ratio that develops almost 5% more horsepower than the original CC340 all while being able to run on a wider range of fuels. CubCrafters expects the new engine to better tolerate automotive fuel in addition to the next generation of avgas than similar high compression engines. Handier for those in the chilly north, the fuel injected model allows the engine to shunt more waste heat into the aircraft's cabin for cold weather operations.

The new engine may be fitted with the company's ground adjustable propellers, allowing pilots to quickly optimize the aircraft for climb or cruise missions in the field without a full propeller replacement. All in all, the new CC363i F/P is only 7 pounds heavier than its CubCrafters CC340 parent. Compared to its heavier, carbeureted Lycoming forebear, it's worlds apart.

The catch? The new engine is exclusively available on CubCrafter's E/A-B Carbon Cub series of aircraft, from the EX-2, EX-3, FX-2, and FX-3. The original Light Sport Aircraft version remains powered by the ASTM certified CC340.

“It is exciting to be able to introduce this new engine to our customers,” said CubCrafters marketing exec Brad Damm. He should know how good it is, since he flew the CC363i F/P equipped Carbon Cub testbed all the way from the company’s backyard in Washington State to AirVenture 2022 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. “This is an engine our customers have been specifically asking for, especially our kit aircraft customers. It’s simple to operate and has better overall performance than any of the other fixed pitch engines we offer. It’s smoother, more fuel efficient, and it cools better. Customers who choose this new engine are going to be pleased for sure.”
