Fifty Diamond Aircraft Begin Operations In Russia

Aircraft Produced In Six Months By Diamond And UWCA

The first 50 Diamond Aircraft DA40 Tundra Star airplanes co-produced by Russia and Austria were introduced Monday in Yekaterinburg (Ural), the fourth-largest city in Russia.

Together with UWCA (Ural Works of Civil Aviation), Diamond Aircraft produced 50 of the single-engine, four-place DA40 Tundra Star airplanes in half a year. This is the first part-delivery from a total order of 117 aircraft for the Russian Ministry of Aviation.

Denis Manturov, trade and industry minister Russian Federation, was on hand to take a look at the airplanes. Already a helicopter pilot, he said he had decided to start working towards his private pilot license (PPL) for fixed-wing aircraft in one of the Diamond airplanes.

The DA40 Tundra Stars will go into operation at the state flight training schools in Ulyanovsk and St. Petersburg at the beginning of 2014.

The Russian Federal Agency for Civil Aviation, represented by Alexander Neradko (Director General Rosavia), said he was highly satisfied with the results.

The DA40 Tundra Star was designed specifically for the Russian market. The aircraft fulfills the strict regulations regarding landing on rough terrain and in a harsh climate. Able to burn kerosene, it can be fueled with Jet A-1, Jet A, and TC-1.
