Want Kai Tak Back?

One of World's Most-Famous Approaches May Open Again, If You Help

ANN Reader Francis Chin, of the Save Kai Tak group, tells us that the legendary Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport and Runway will likely be saved. Chin asks, "Remember the world famous Kai Tak where you spread your wings to go overseas for the first time?"

There is a group working in a professional way, to try to save the old beauty, which has been closed for five years; and their website is open. They ask us, "We sincerely wish you would kindly peruse and give us your valuable comments and suggestions for improvement. I think we need some trimming before we can finalize the plans."

Even with all the talent they have put into the plan, there are a few things that may warrant redesign. Chin writes, "For example, I am not too comfortable on the position of the cruise terminals. They are sticking out to the main shipping navigation causeway in the middle of the harbor. Please kindly advise." Looking for experts, soliciting informed opinion -- that's how you get a good proposal together: "Or if you know anyone who is knowledgeable with shipping/navigation/currents of the Victoria Harbor please kindly refer to us for consultation."

If you can help, please do. This group is looking for international visibility, as their quest is to save an international icon. "After looking at our latest architectual plans we hope you will have more confidence that our campaign will win," Francis wrote, "but we need your kind support to make this dream come true. You can help us a lot if you could join in and send an appeal email to our Chief Executive, Mr. Tung Chee Hwa. Please send an appeal email now if still have not done so. Thanks a lot." --Francis Chin
