Citation Jet Pilots Assoc. Marks 12 Months Accident-Free

Cessna’s BizJet Operators Tout Safety Record

The Citation Jet Pilots Owner Pilot Association (CJP), the largest organization for operators of the Cessna Citation series of light jets, has successfully completed 12 months of accident and incident-free flights.

They say their dedication to safe operation through continual education is key to the accomplishment. David Miller, director of programs and safety education for the CJP Safety and Education Foundation, believes their efforts have paid off. “This achievement is the culmination of our efforts including our Gold Standard Safety Awards, a groundbreaking study on single pilot go-around decision making and pilot performance analysis through flight operational quality assurance data collection,” he said.

Begun in 2017 by industry professional and space shuttle astronaut Charlie Precourt, the CJP Safety Committee annually meets with Textron Aviation before the convention to review accidents and incidents involving Citation jets, regardless of operator or membership status. That focus on safety is the core of CJP events and activities, including their Safety Standdown, currently underway in Indian Wells, California. Offering training content and topical discussions, the CJP provides a central hub for operators wanting topical, pertinent information for their citation operations, tailored to their aircraft.

“CJP is nearly 1,400 members strong with more than 900 Citation aircraft in our collective fleet,” said Precourt.

“The achievement of a full year of accident-free flying is even more significant in light of the diverse nature of our members’ uses of their citation jets, from supporting their businesses to traveling across the country and to a wide variety of international destinations.”

Members of the association may receive the CJP Gold Standard Safety Award, which recognizes those who abide by SOP in their 100 hours or more annual turbine PIC time if their recurrent training goes above and beyond the required FAA standards.
