Tamarack and Prospective Partners Exploring A320 Upgrades

Eco-SMARTWING Garners Widespread Interest

Founded to provide advancements in aerospace efficiency technology, Sandpoint, Idaho-based Tamarack Aerospace Group is currently engaged in serious and confidential talks with single-aisle aircraft manufacturing organizations, carriers, lessors, and service organizations at the Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) show.

Considered the Middle East and North Africa's premier business aviation hootenanny, the 06 through 08 December 2022 event will be held in the coastal city of Dubai on the United Arab Emirates’ northeastern peninsula.

Tamarack founder and CEO Nick Guida states: “There has been exceptional interest in Tamarack’s solicitation for manufacturing partnerships now because of aviation’s current increased focus on sustainable flight and Tamarack’s technology is arguably the most dramatic aviation fuel saving and emission reducing technology proven and available right now.”

Mr. Guida added, “Our Eco-SMARTWING winglets instantly react to turbulence, smooth flight, allow for enhanced ability for safety and control, while being able to take-off in high and hot conditions with higher payloads and reduce noise pollution. Noise pollution is lessened because our upgraded aircraft can use shorter runways and get higher faster, away from airports and population centers.”

Differing from conventional, passive winglets, Tamarack’s Performance SMARTWING technology automatically controls wing bending during turbulence and other inflight events by effectively “turning off the winglets”—thereby alleviating wing-loading. This is accomplished via load-sensors and a camber surface capable of responding to system inputs in fractions of a second. The Active Winglet/load-alleviation system is fully automatic, requires no pilot action, and functions independently of other aircraft systems. What’s more, installation of Tamarack’s Performance SMARTWING requires no aircraft structural reinforcement.

Tamarack’s Active Winglet upgrade has been installed on nearly ten-percent of the world’s Cessna CitationJet fleet and has proven a boon to private and charter operators alike. The system facilitates increased aircraft range, payload, and takeoff weight while improving ride-quality. To date, approximately 180 CitationJets have been upgraded with Tamarack technology. The company’s Performance SMARTWING has also been installed on Cessna’s M2 GEN2 jet, as well as Beechcraft’s King Air 200 and 350 models—the latter two of which have performed superbly as experimental aircraft nearing FAA certification.

In November 2022, Tamarack submitted claims to the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and the European Federation Aeronautique International (FAI) for two city-pair flight records: a 15 October, 2,033-nautical-mile, non-stop flight from Spokane, Washington (GEG) to Orlando, Florida (MCO) which was completed in 7-hours and 46-minutes by a King Air 350 retrofitted with Tamarack’s innovative Performance SMARTWING technology; and a 1770-nautical-mile, one-stop, westbound odyssey from Orlando, Florida (MCO) to Henderson, Nevada (HND) via Albuquerque, New Mexico (ABQ) accomplished in 8-hours and 8-minutes by the selfsame, retrofitted King Air.

The economic and environmental savings actualized during the record-setting flights garnered the attention of single-aisle aircraft OEMs, carriers and lessors, and service organizations, with which Tamarack is actively pursuing avenues by which to commercialize its Eco-SMARTWING technology in the commercial aviation sector.

In recent days, a number of organizations have reportedly stepped forward with serious interest in adapting Tamarack’s Eco-SMARTWING architecture to their respective aircraft and fleets.

In addition to civilian aviation concerns, Tamarack’s technologies have gained the notice and support U.S. Congressional aviation committee members. Tamarack is currently in talks with branches of the U.S. military seeking means by which to increase mission effectiveness by maximizing aircraft range, endurance, and loiter time.
