Reporter Partially Reimbursed After Unusual Flight

Person On Board The Plane Died, And Was Placed Across The Aisle From The Woman Who Was On Vacation

A reporter for Radio Sweden on an overnight flight to Tanzania recently had something of a macabre experience on the flight. A man on the plane passed away during the night, and was placed across the aisle from Lena Pattersson. And while the FAs for Kenyan Airways were sympathetic, they were unable to give her a different seat.

Travelers Today reports that Pettersson was on vacation when the incident occurred. She later told her radio station Sveriges Radio that the man, who appeared to be in his 30's was "sweating and was having convulsions" when he boarded the plane in Amsterdam. While the man received some medical treatment during the flight, he passed away after a few hours.

Pettersson said they covered him with a blanket and laid him across a row of seats across from her. She asked for a different seat, but none was reportedly available. She said the man's feet were sticking out into the aisle "just inches from her" for the rest of the flight to east Africa, according to a report on The Blaze.

Pettersson had paid around $1,400 for her flight. She had originally not asked for any compensation, but later decided she was owed something for her discomfort. Kenya Airways agreed, and refunded about half the price of her ticket. Pettersson said that was "fair," and the issue is considered closed.
