NASA Astronaut to Speak at International Women’s Air & Space Museum

An Evening with Dr. Kathy Sullivan

After 25 years, retired NASA astronaut Dr. Kathryn Sullivan has returned to the International Women’s Air & Space Museum (IWASM) for purpose of exploring the New Space Age on Friday, 15 September 2023.

Selected in the NASA astronaut class of 1978—thereby becoming one of the first female astronauts—oceanographer, geologist, author, and trailblazer Kathryn Sullivan joins IWASM for the first time since the museum’s 1999 move to Cleveland, Ohio. The event is one of Sullivan’s final stops prior to her enshrinement in the National Aviation Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023.

A veteran of three Space Shuttle Missions and the first American woman to perform a spacewalk, Sullivan will explore the new era of the U.S. space program. The New Space Age into which the nation has passed is about much more than short tourist hops to the edge of space. The number of spacefaring nations has grown substantially, many start-up companies have entered the arena, new business models are emerging, and venture capital investment is rising. Sullivan’s talk will provide an overview of the big changes afoot and dig below the headlines to reveal some of the major hurdles and frightening unknowns that lie ahead.

The program is made possible thanks to a Cuyahoga Arts and Culture grant.

Registration is required. In-person tickets include program admission and a boxed dinner. In-person tickets are $27 for non-IWASM members and $17 for IWASM members. Virtual tickets are for a minimum donation of $10. The museum offers a special ticket bundle and a discounted one-year membership for $55.

Dinner will begin at 17:30 EDT with the program starting at 18:00 EDT. Parties wishing to register for the event are invited to visit the IWASM website.
