328 Design Awarded Contract For Legacy 600/650s Cockpit Display Upgrade

Will Work Towards EASA Certification For Honeywell DU-875 ELITE Installation

328 Design (328DO) has been awarded a contract from Alamo Engineering GmbH to upgrade the Embraer 135 jet variants including the Legacy 600 and 650 aircraft family with the latest Honeywell DU-875 ELITE Cockpit Displays. Work will be carried out under a form and fit and function replacement strategy.

328 Design will work towards obtaining EASA certification on the project for an undisclosed end customer. The project is expected to take eight weeks, through to the end of May. The STC will be made available to all party of interests.

Honeywell’s Primus Display DU-870 which uses cathode ray tube (CRT technology) will be replaced by the latest generation Honeywell DU-875 ELITE displays, which introduces state-of-the-art LCD technology for Embraer Legacy 600/650 operators. It is the most sophisticated and user friendly display available on the retrofit market today, featuring powerful graphics, advanced functionality and the improved clarity of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology.

The DU-875 ELITE display upgrade delivers significant value to Legacy operators because it is a low risk solution offering improved reliability, weight savings and a growth path that takes advantage of future technologies and applications, usually only available to new build aircraft. As the Primus 1000 core systems are retained and the new LCD displays have a similar format to the CRT displays, operators benefit from cost savings - from reduced downtime to complete the retrofit and the need to provide additional pilot training. Furthermore the STC will provide highest flexibility to the operators as it includes a single display replacement opportunity from one to all five.

“With over 180 Embraer Legacy 600s and more than 65 Legacy 650s in service and eligible for the DU-875 ELITE upgrade package, this represents a significant avionics retrofit contract for us,” said Jörg Gorkenant, Chief Operating Officer and Head of 328DO. EASA approval extends to all Embraer 135 variants and 328DO is already in dialogue regarding other aircraft platforms with Honeywell Primus cockpits. As the DU-870 starts to become obsolete, with higher repair costs, we foresee some good opportunities for follow on work,” added Jörg.
