Proposal Flight Ends In Near-Disaster

Couple Has A Bumpy Ride To "Yes"

It was supposed to be a romantic flight, where family history would be made. And it was indeed that... but certainly not in the way Adam Sutton and Erica Broussee had in mind.

When the two climbed aboard a Cessna 172 piloted by Bradley Gilbert Friday evening, Erica didn't know it... but Adam planned to propose.

He covered all the details: renting the plane from the Rome Flying School... even getting some of their friends and family to stand on the ground... holding up a bedsheet that said, "Erica, will you marry me?"

Gilbert flew low and slow over the sign-toting crowd, so Erica could get a good look at the queen-sized sheet. But that's when something went wrong.

Authorities at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport say the Skyhawk's wing scraped the pavement near a hangar... then nose-dived into the ramp.

Bradley and the newlyweds were pretty banged-up in the mishap. Erica suffered a broken leg. Adam was badly cut... but none of the injuries is thought to be life-threatening.

As for the ring Adam hoped to give to the love of his life... well, that went missing in the accident.

That doesn't seem to have mattered, though... for as she was being put into the ambulance for a ride to the hospital, Erica turned to one of the medics and asked them to relay a message to her high-school sweetheart: "Tell Adam I said yes."

So far, no wedding date has been announced.
