Classic Aero-TV: Learning From QuadRotors - The Arcturus UAV VTOL

Quadrotor Technology Adapted To A Fixed Wing UAV...

In this video you’re going to see an airplane that can take off and land vertically and transition to winged high flight. Okay, it must be the V-22 Osprey or possibly the F-35B Lightning ll or, of course, there’s the Arcturus UAV....The what?

ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell attended the 2014 convention of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and talked with the D’Milo Hallerberg, the president of Arcturus UAV. Their unique unmanned aerial vehicle has all the appearance of being configured as a conventional airplane except it also has 4 horizontal rotors that allow it to takeoff and land vertically.

Hallerberg talks about the reasoning behind this unique UAV and he makes a lot of sense. You don’t have to look at it for very long before you realize that it’s a cross between a conventional airplane and a quadrocopter. The video includes some great action shots of the Arcturus UAV in operation and Hallerberg explains the reasoning behind it.

It’s also obvious that the Arcturus UAV is designed for military type missions. This is not your toy quadrocopter. This video is fun to watch because you’re going to see something you probably haven’t seen before.
