Two Lost In SR22 Landing Accident Near Zurich

Aircraft Goes Down Short Of Runway

Two people onboard a Cirrus SR22 G2 were killed when their aircraft crashed short of the runway at Zurich Airport in Switzerland Wednesday afternoon.

Local news reports add two other persons onboard were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Little hard information is available on the circumstances surrounding the crash... though we do know the aircraft (similar to type shown below) was flying from Geneva to Berlin when it diverted to Zurich for unknown reasons.

The SR22 impacted about 300 feet from the approach end to runway 14. The accident closed that runway for about an hour, forcing a number of commercial flights to divert or hold above the airport.

There are unconfirmed reports the aircraft's engine failed on final approach.
