The 1st annual DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase is in the history books, and it appears to be the beginning of a great success story. Our ANN crew was there to cover this first time event during the first week of November, 2016. ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, took the opportunity to talk with Jana Filip, who is the Sport Aviation Administrator at the Deland Municipal Airport.
As Jim talks with Filip, we find out the Sport Aviation Showcase is more than just another display of airplanes. Filip explained that the Deland Airport has dedicated a tract of land to be devoted to sport aviation. They call this area of the airport the ‘Sport Aviation Village.’ The Village is being developed as a premier facility for aviation enthusiasts and builders of light sport aircraft. The Sport Aviation Showcase is one of the events that is designed to promote the development of the Sport Aviation Village.
During the interview, Jim gets background information about how the Sport Aviation Village plan started and how it expects to grow. We find out that the Sport Aviation Showcase this year, which is more of a prototype test project, went very well. This gives motivation for the event to become an annual affair, and it’s already scheduled for 2017. There’s lots of information in this video about how sport aviation can prosper and grow at the DeLand Municipal Airport and beyond.
