Air Force Association Announces Lt. Gen Bruce Wright As New President

Will Assume New Position March 1

The Air Force Association (AFA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce Lt. Gen Bruce Wright, USAF (Ret.) will serve as AFA's new president beginning March 1, 2019.

Wright will direct the association's professional staff and be responsible for the management and operations of the association, which include professional development events across the country, advocacy initiatives on Capitol Hill, and national and international aerospace education programs. He will also serve as publisher of Air Force Magazine, the official journal of the association. The Air Force Association was established in 1946 and currently has more than 99,000 members around the world.

"General Wright has had a distinguished career and his success in the Air Force and in industry will serve AFA very well. As a great AFA supporter and member of our board, we have seen the dedication that he brings to AFA. He will be another great leader in the long history of successful leaders of AFA," said AFA Chairman of the Board, The Honorable F. Whitten Peters.  Peters added that, "The Board is very sad to be losing the highly successful leadership of General Larry Spencer," the current President of AFA who will leave AFA at the conclusion of the Air Warfare Symposium on March 1, 2019, after serving as president since August 2015.

A fighter pilot with more than 3,200 flying hours, including multiple combat tours, Wright served for 34 years in the Air Force, finishing as Commander of 5th Air Force and U.S. Forces Japan. After retiring, he served nine years in industry, most recently as Vice President, Cyber and S&T for Lockheed Martin Government Affairs. During that time he was directly involved in a wide range of joint forces, intelligence, advanced technology, and cyber programs.

"I am excited to lead the Air Force Association and absolutely dedicated to supporting AFA's mission of promoting a dominant Air Force and a strong national defense," said Lt Gen Bruce Wright. "General Spencer has made a terrific positive impact on AFA and I cannot thank him enough for all he has done to lead AFA. I look forward to building upon General Spencer's leadership and our entire Air Force Association's recent achievements and heritage."
