Cessna 525 Gets First Active Winglets Following EASA Certification
Following certification by EASA, the first ever customer installation of Tamarack Aerospace’s ATLAS Active Winglet system concluded on April 29th, 2016, on a Cessna Citation CJ aircraft operated by private hire company JetPingu. The installation, which took place at Textron Aviation’s Service Center in Zurich, took approximately 400 man hours to install. Tamarack’s Active Winglets do not require wing reinforcement, so the installation time is substantially less than a similar ‘passive winglet’ installation would take.
"We selected the Tamarack Active Winglets because of the significant fuel savings and the increase in value for the aircraft. In addition, the extended range will allow us to offer our guests many more destinations beyond our current three-hour limit," said Jetpingu pilot Hugo Dobler. "I am really looking forward to my first flight with winglets."
Nick Guida, inventor and founder of Tamarack Aerospace Group, was in Zurich to witness the installation. "Today we installed the world’s most efficient winglets on a customer’s aircraft. This is a very exciting milestone for everyone at Tamarack Aerospace. This is another step towards achieving our goal of creating a more sustainable aviation industry."
Active Winglets are certified in Europe for the CJ, CJ1 & CJ1+ aircraft with FAA certification expected in the summer of 2016. They can be fitted at any approved Textron Aviation Service Center.
