Disappointed! COVID Concerns Ground DeLand 'Flyway to Highway' Event

Well... They Tried...

The ANN crew is crestfallen to receive official confirmation that COVID concerns have again halted a fine sport aviation event from celebrating all that is good about recreational aviation. And face it.... we NEEDED to get out and play a bit.

The January 30th DeLand 'Flyway to Highway' event, under the direction of the folks who conduct the annual DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase, was designed to be an interim event to help the industry gather a bit before their main event next November, BUT, it is now officially OFF. The decision makers have watched the news, seen the infection rate keep up at a breathtaking pace, and the vaccination rate struggle along slowly, and decided now is not the time for such an event. We get it... but we hate it.

It would have been fun, though. And have we mentioned that the ANN crew REALLY needed to get and play with airplanes (especially ANN's Amber... the girl NEEDS some airtime).

DeLand's 'Flyway To Highway' event was scheduled for January 30th, at the DeLand Municipal Airport from 0900 to 1400, on the ramp at 1000 Flightline Boulevard.

In addition to some events associated with a local Tesla dealer (the 'Highway' part of it all), there should have been a LOT of sport aviation goodness to be had. Among the aviation exhibitors who hoped to show, were Aerolite 103, Pipistrel, Seamax, Alto North America, BushCat, ChartItAll, CubCrafters and Rachel's Jewelry. DeLand's EAA Chapter 635 and the DeLand RC Club were also on the schedule to be part of the festivities.

We're sure that another interim event is on the minds of DeLand's Boss, Jana Filip and others.... and as soon as they have some info about future plans, we'll share them with you.
