While at the AOPA 2013 convention, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell had the opportunity to get out on the ramp and check out the twin-engine Velocity prototype.
He met with John Abraham, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Velocity Aircraft and asked what’s in the future for this unique homebuilt airplane.
Abraham said they are happy with the progress they are making on the airplane. However, the next production kit prototype will have some changes. For example, the current 160 hp engines will be replaced with 180 hp engines, the position of the landing gear will be altered a bit, and the wings will be shorter and sport winglets. Abraham went on to talk about the performance of the airplane which is pretty spectacular. Of particular interest is the excellent single-engine handling characteristics.
Abraham goes through the performance details of a typical flight profile, and when you compare the capabilities of the Twin Velocity with other contemporary light twins it’s very impressive.
