Pilot Training Program Will Provide 'Pilot Pipeline' For The Carrier
An agreement has been reached between TransPac Aviation Academy and American Eagle to offer the “American Eagle Pipeline Program”. This program will allow qualified pilots to work as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) at TransPac Aviation Academy while being actively employed by American Eagle.
The program is an opportunity for qualified applicants to gain the requisite experience required to become a First Officer with American Eagle Airlines. The program can be a perfect opportunity for graduates of the TransPac Program and others to have a defined career path to a future as a commercial pilot. This is a new program in Arizona. Successful pilots who enter and complete the American Eagle Pipeline Program can look forward to transitioning directly to American Eagle as a First Officer.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported on rule changes regarding the mandatory number of hours a pilot must have prior to working as a commercial pilot. The new guidelines will require 1500 hours of experience prior to working as a First Officer for pilots in the United States. The agreement between TransPac Aviation Academy and American Eagle will assist commercial airline pilot candidates in achieving the required hours.
Another new rule recently emerged regarding the rest time requirements for pilots. The two recent rule changes will likely decrease the number of qualified pilots while at the same time increase the demand for more pilots within the industry.
“This is an exciting and forward-looking development for the entire aviation industry which has long been aware of the impending pilot shortage that threatens the future of air travel in the United States” said Stephen Goddard, President and CEO of TransPac Aviation Academy. “By relieving the uncertainty around a career path from training to instructing to the airlines, we believe that this innovative new initiative could help address one of the primary constraints that discourages the inflow of young people from choosing this exciting career path. I commend American Eagle for this bold step forward and am proud that TransPac has been selected as an initial partner.”
