Nearly 300 people joined Paul Poberezny in celebrating his 90th birthday Sunday at the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Thirty-one aircraft arrived at Wittman Regional Airport on a glorious late-summer Wisconsin day. A steady stream of people stopped by the EAA AirVenture Museum to give Paul birthday wishes at a lunch in the Founders’ Wing of the EAA AirVenture Museum. The mid-day event also included Paul and Audrey Poberezny greeting people in the upper level of the Founders’ Wing – the re-creation of their Milwaukee-area basement office where EAA began in 1953.

“It’s amazing,” Paul said while sampling the cake and ice cream served in his honor after a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday” was sung. “It’s probably the biggest aviation birthday party for a fellow aviation enthusiast that will ever happen that I could imagine.”

During the lunch in Paul’s honor, EAA President Rod Hightower presented him with a large framed poster emblazoned with the original EAA logo, signed by all current EAA staff members. Paul will officially turn 90 on Wednesday, September 14, but the weekend event was scheduled to allow the greatest number of EAA members and friends to attend.
