Airborne 05.11.16: R44 Cadet Cert, B-29 'Doc' Readying, Norwegian Backlash

Also: Kaname Harada, EAA Seaplane Base, 'The Force Awakens', ISS Crew, Teamsters/NetJets, Texas Drone, GoPro Posts Loss

Earlier this week, the Robinson Helicopter Company announced that The FAA has certified their two-place Robinson R44 Cadet helicopter.

Robinson helicopter says that by combining the best of the R22 and R44, along with what they are referring to as a modest price, they will appeal to the training market as well as operators that want the economy of a small helicopter with the comfort, power, and performance of a larger helicopter. Preparing a freshly restored warbird for its first flight is an exciting time, but it takes on a special meaning when the aircraft weighs in the range of 70,000 pounds and has four 2,200 horsepower engines. The team restoring the B-29 "Doc" to airworthy condition has released a video from the recent dynamic propeller balancing on all four propellers. In a blog post, Restoration Program Manager, Jim Murphy, says this another one of the final steps before first flight. On April 15, the U.S. Department of Transportation tentatively approved Norwegian International Airlines’ request for a foreign air carrier permit to allow it to operate flights to the United States, and that action was met with fierce opposition to their approval by several entities in the United States. In the context of resounding protest from Members of Congress and more than 16,000 airline pilots, ALPA this week launched an outreach campaign featuring ads in prominent Washington, D.C. news outlets. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
