Defense Department IG To Look Into ULA Contract

Says ULA Executive Suggested Pentagon Had Improperly Favored His Company For Launch Contract

The Inspector General for the Department of Defense will investigate whether the U.S. Air Force properly awarded a space launch contract to United Launch Alliance.

Reuters reports that Brett Tobey, who resigned Wednesday as the vice president for engineering at ULA, said during a lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder that the DoD had "bent over backwards to lean the field" and give ULA an advantage over SpaceX when awarding its most recent launch contract.

ULA issued a statement that Tobey's comments were "inaccurate", and that he was not involved in any negotiations with the Air Force. The company said it would cooperate fully with the Inspector General's office in its investigation.
