Aero-Linx!
Scouring the information super airways can sometimes be a tough, if educational, task for the Aero-News staff... but it also allows us to check out some truly neat and exciting sites, so it's not that bad a gig. On any given day, we may check dozens (and often hundreds) of different sources for story ideas, and facts confirmation. And, as is the nature of our business, much of this is done on the Internet.
The ANN gang decided we probably shouldn't keep some of the neat sites, info resources, and organizations we've discovered to ourselves... so we decided to bring you Aero-Linx. These are the sites that WE check out -- when we need added perspective, a new spin on a day's topic... or just want to escape into cyber-aero-space for awhile.
Look for some of our favorite sites, coming each day to ANN via Aero-Linx. Suggestions for future Aero-Linx segments are always welcome, as well.
Aero Linx: Civil Aviation Authority (UK)
As the UK's specialist aviation regulator we work so that:
- the aviation industry meets the highest safety standards, consumers have choice, value for money, are protected and treated fairly when they fly, through efficient use of airspace, the environmental impact of aviation on local communities is effectively managed and CO2 emissions are reduced, the aviation industry manages security risks effectively.
- We are a public corporation, established by Parliament in 1972 as an independent specialist aviation regulator. The UK Government requires that our costs are met entirely from charges to those we provide a service to or regulate.
- Most aviation regulation and policy is harmonised across the world to ensure consistent levels of safety and consumer protection. Worldwide safety regulations are set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and within Europe by the European Aviation Safety Agency.
- We run the ATOL holiday financial protection scheme.
We also economically regulate some airports and certain aspects of air traffic control. Our consumer panel acts as a ‘critical friend’ providing a consumer perspective on all aspects of our work.
