Hopes To Attract A Flight Technician School By Year's End

Nine years ago, the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority took over operation of the Brunswick Naval Air Station, which was closed in a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round in 2005. In those years, the airport has grown to the point that in November, the number of civilian flight operations surpassed the number of military operations that took place in the last year it was fully operational as a military base.

Centralmaine.com reports that as 2020 gets underway, the MRRA is looking to hire a new airport manager to direct anticipated growth at Brunswick Executive Airport.

MRRA Executive Director Steve Levesque said that in 2019, the airport saw 24,250 takeoffs and landings, an increase of 18 percent over the previous year. The airport is also seeing an increase in the number of businesses headquartered at the airport, ranging from American Classic Aviation, which maintains and leases aircraft, to drone-based businesses.

Levesque said that by the end of the year he hopes to have an aviation technician school open at the airport. The MRRA has issued a call for "expressions of interest" from qualified schools.

The airport itself is involved in a 10-year, $40 million upgrade program using AIP and other grants to fund projects.

To help guide the growth, the MRRA is seeking "a dynamic individual to manage the fast-growing Brunswick Executive Airport (KBXM), which is an integral element of Brunswick Landing, Maine’s Center for Innovation at the site of former Naval Air Station Brunswick. We are seeking a team-oriented person who has demonstrated experience in airport promotion, management and operations, and in working with the FAA and state airport authorities."

The job pays from $50,000-$70,000 per year.
