Airborne-Unmanned 02.11.20: Cora Air Taxi Trial, TEROS UAV, Flirtey Patent

Also: Madrid Airport Drone Sighting, UAV Power Line Inspection, senseFly, Remote ID NPRM

The New Zealand Government and Wisk have announced an MOU to establish a passenger transport trial in  Canterbury, New Zealand.

Wisk’s self-flying, all-electric air taxi, called Cora, is the aircraft selected for the trials. In October 2019, the New Zealand Government announced that it was establishing an industry-wide Airspace Integration Trial to work with leading, innovative domestic and international industry partners to safely test and demonstrate unmanned aircraft. Wisk, based in the United States and New Zealand, was announced as the first industry partner to join this program. Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) has successfully completed a test flight of the NASC TEROS UAV, Technology Demonstrator at the NASC Unmanned Aerial Systems Flight Operations and Training Center at the Griffiss International Airport in Rome, New York. During the flight, the UAV flew for approximately an hour and a half in both manual and autonomous flight profiles, which successfully tested the aircraft systems/avionics suite. “Today’s successful flight is a huge step toward reaching our ultimate goal of TEROS approval for integration into the National Airspace,” says Richard Leverich, senior program engineer, Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation. Drone delivery service provider Flirtey has been granted a patent enhancing safety in drone flights and deliveries. This granted patent will enhance safety when drone manufacturers implement technologies such as parachutes, while a drone is in flight and when it is delivering a package. The patent recognizes the ability of a drone's technology to detect an error in operation while the drone is in flight, ultimately deploying a safety mechanism, if necessary. This action further alleviates the risk of contact and/or injury to bystanders, while also sparing the unmanned aircraft. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
