WAI Offers Seven New Scholarships For 2016

Organization's Assistance Is Not Just For Students

Seven new scholarships will join the dozens of other scholarships available to women and men who are members of Women in Aviation International. All WAI scholarships will be awarded during WAI’s 27th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference to be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee from March 10-12, 2016.

"WAI scholarships are not simply for scholastic assistance,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian (pictured). "We offer flight training including type ratings and financial assistance for nearly every aviation/aerospace profession from ag flying to engineering. We even have scholarships for those who choose to simply fly for fun.”

New scholarships offered for 2016 include:

  • Ace Aerobatic School Spin Training offers its spin training course for a pilot who wishes to enhance her skills and resume. This scholarship is for an aspiring flight instructor who is already a commercial pilot and is valued at $800.
  • Blackburn Northwest Flight Scholarships includes two $5,000 scholarships intended for women from the Pacific Northwest for any phase of flight certification from light sport aviation through ATP. Applicants must already be a student pilot.

  • HAI Helicopter Maintenance Scholarship will be awarded to an individual interested in obtaining a helicopter mechanic certificate and is valued at $1,000. Preference will be given to an applicant who is pursuing an airframe, powerplant, or both airframe and powerplant certificate, or the international equivalent.
  • The Martha King Scholarship for Female Flight Instructors provides $5,000 to apply to flight training for any CFI add-on rating along with lifetime access to the entire King Schools Online courses valued at $13,120 and also includes FIRCs for life. The applicant must be a woman holding a current FAA CFI certificate.
  • The Mary Alice Beatty Scholarship is offered by the Southern Museum of Flight to honor Mary Alice Beatty, pilot and originator of the museum. This is a $5,000 scholarship for women ages 15 to 25 actively seeking careers in aviation and aerospace technology. The scholarship exists to support job growth for women within aviation and aerospace technology within the state of Alabama but all applicants will be considered.
  • MzeroA.com Flight Training Scholarship offers its online course to three awardees to prepare the applicants for their written and oral exams along with full registration to the Women in Aviation conference. The course is for those pursuing private pilot, instrument pilot or commercial pilot ratings. The scholarship includes tuition and eight books related to your flight training.
