Classic Aero-TV: North Dakota Leads The Way - A Focal Point For UAV Innovation

From 2015 (YouTube Version): North Dakota Has Become An Aero-Technological Breeding Ground

While at the Unmanned Systems 2015 Conference, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, spent a lot of time looking at UAS aerial vehicles and talking with the manufacturers that produce them.

However, there’s more to it than producing the hardware; there is also a need to promote a place where research can take place, and that’s exactly what the state of North Dakota is doing.

Jim spent time talking with Robert Becklund, who is the Executive Director of the Northern Plains UAS Test Site located in North Dakota. Becklund was at the conference to promote his State as the place to bring a company that is interested in research and development of unmanned aerial systems.

As a previous military pilot, Becklund describes how he moved from flying jet fighters to being involved in UAS development. He says that a movement in this direction has been going on for years, and North Dakota is in a perfect position to be the place for these industries to find support. Becklund says the University of North Dakota and Northwest State University both adopted specialties in unmanned electronics and the aviation aspect of it.

As the video continues, we find out about a State that is looking to the future and promoting the development of UAS technologies. It’s a fascinating look at the industry that is being born and a forward-looking Sate that wants to see it grow…in their backyard.
