GoFundMe Suspends Pet Rescue Org's Campaign To Buy Airplane

Is Reviewing Finances Of Soaring Paws

The crowdfunding website GoFundMe has suspended a campaign instituted by the pet rescue organization Soaring Paws while it looks into the finances of the group and its founder, Albert Lonzo Adams III.

Adams is asking donors to help him buy an airplane to fly dogs and cats from shelters to rescue groups, which is a fairly common practice in the U.S. But many pilots donate their time and use of their airplanes to such efforts.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that GoFundMe media director Kelsea Little said that Adams' campaign has been "suspended while we are reviewing it. We were alerted to this by the GoFundMe community."

Along with the crowdfunding effort, Adams takes donations on his website, and has posted on Facebook that he is within $30,000 of purchasing a $130,000 airplane.

The state of Florida is also reportedly looking at Adams' finances, according to the report. The state reportedly got involved after an investigation by the paper showed conflicting revenue reports from Adams.

Adams says his efforts are above board. He says he has been cooperating with investigators despite an assertion by the Florida Department of Agriculture that he has not shown "any semblance of cooperation" when they turned the case over to law enforcement.

When the campaign was suspended, he had received pledges of $12,515 from 74 donors on GoFundMe. Little said donors with concerns should contact the crowdfunding site.
