EMS Aviation is a new division of EMS Technologies, Inc. and a
leading supplier of airborne connectivity and cabin infrastructure
equipment for a broad range of fixed and rotary wing commercial and
military aircraft. The division enables reliable satellite-based
airborne Internet connectivity and in-flight entertainment,
messaging and tracking, rugged data storage and management, and
data record and replay.
EMS Aviation is made up of the company’s former EMS
SATCOM, EMS Formation and EMS Sky Connect business units and is 'a
leading provider of Inmarsat, Iridium, Ku-band and air-to-ground
connectivity systems' including proven commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) technology. EMS Aviation also offers built to suit products
and technology for key avionics and airframe OEMS that are used in
a variety of commercial and military aircraft.
EMS Aviation’s offerings include:
- Inmarsat-based high-speed connectivity systems offering cabin
and cockpit voice and data capabilities for business, air
transport, general aviation, and military aircraft. Products
include transceivers, antennas and networking equipment.
- Iridium-based satellite transceiver systems and services for
voice, data and tracking, for medevac and off-shore oil
helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft of all sizes.
- In-cabin networking devices and computers to process data
onboard aircraft, including rugged data storage, routers, data
servers, communications management systems and data record and
replay; and
- Ku-band two-way broadband antennas delivering global
high-bandwidth connectivity.
ANN met up with Vice President and General Manager, Nim Evatt,
at the 2010 AEA Convention and Trade Show to get a feel for
the current market status of EMS Aviation and where they see their
future.
Nim Evatt serves as vice president and general manager of EMS
Aviation, reporting to the President and CEO, Dr. Neil Mackay.
Evatt oversees the day-to-day operations and helps lead the
strategic direction for EMS’s largest division, with almost
500 employees in major facilities in Ottawa, Ontario, and
Moorestown, N.J.
