Engine Experienced A Partial Loss Of Engine Power Shortly After Takeoff

On December 10, 2020, about 1500 mountain standard time, a Cirrus Design Corp. SR22, N577CP, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Ogden, Utah. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

A friend of the pilot reported that the pilot told him the engine experienced a partial loss of engine power shortly after takeoff from runway 17, and that the airplane would not climb.

The pilot performed a right turn and landed on runway 3, however, could not stop the airplane before it overran the departure end of the runway and impacted terrain.

The airplane sustained structural damage to the left wing and fuselage.

The wreckage was recovered to a secure location for further examination.
