Skandia, Inc. Receives EASA STC for Falcon 900 Soundproofing

Silence of the Fans

Skandia, Incorporated—the Illinois-based aircraft interior and completion concern—has received final European Union Aviation Safety Administration (EASA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval of an acoustic soundproofing kit for all variants of Dassault’s Falcon 900 business jet.

The Falcon 900 STC is the fifth EASA STC approval awarded to Skandia for a soundproofing acoustic solution. Skandia is among the aviation industry’s preeminent aircraft interiors specialist, and provides an array of services including flammability and floatation testing and certification, soundproofing, foam fabrication, and aircraft exterior polyurethane film products. Skandia’s cabin soundproofing schemes are applicable to aircraft of all sizes, up to heavy VVIP jets exceeding one-hundred-thousand-pounds. The company’s OEM customers include Airbus, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Textron, Dassault, Embraer, Pilatus, and HondaJet.

Henceforth, Falcon 900 operators may dramatically reduce the cabin noise and increase the comfort of their aircraft throughout all flight regimes by availing themselves of Skandia’s proprietary soundproofing materials and acoustic expertise.

In final testing, aircraft retrofitted with Skandia soundproofing solutions realized overall sound reduction of 4dB(SIL). In some instances, sound reduction as high as 6dB(SIL) has been achieved.

The conjunction of Skandia’s intuitive materials kitting process and technical guidelines make a quick, straightforward business of installing the Falcon 900 STC. What’s more, Skandia offers customers flexibility in their acoustic kits. Falcon 900 owners may select from acoustic material options the likes of fuselage skin and floor damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, over-frame blankets, and carpet pad.

The worldwide fleet of in-service 900-series Falcon jets exceeds five-hundred specimens.

Skandia regional sales manager Tanya Morris states: “The Falcon 900 is a great aircraft and owners see value in improving the quality of the jet’s long range capabilities. As owners look to improve their inflight experience, a turnkey Skandia acoustic kit is a terrific value. The system utilizes our most technically advanced engineering and modern materials to produce a very quiet result. We have created the system in a way that owner/operators can select how much sound performance they want to add based on their budget, or how much weight they want to use.”

Skandia Acoustic System kits can be purchased directly from Skandia or through a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) center.
