Aero-TV: Aerial AirVenture - The Bell 47G-2 Helicopter Ride

Attendees Experience a Bird's Eye View of AirVenture

This July, over 578,000 aviation enthusiasts flocked to EAA AirVenture held at Wittman Field in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Roughly 10,000 aircraft attended the event, including three Bell 47 G-2 Helicopters offering passenger rides for lucky visitors.

Each year, AirVenture attendees can experience a truly unique bird’s eye view of the world’s most celebrated aviation event.  Operating every day, flights depart from the EAA AirVenture Pioneer Airport, styled as a typical airport from the 1930s and exhibiting over 50 vintage aircraft from aviation history.

First produced in 1946 for the U.S. military, the Bell 47G-2 is known as the first successful civilian helicopter.  The distinctive cockpit bubble allowed the helicopter to be used for a variety of tasks including aerial photography and survey, fire fighting, and aerial ambulances (as most famously seen in the television series M*A*S*H*).

Over the 27 years of production, 6,263 Bell 47s were built of which 167 model 47G-2s remain in existence today.
