Mark Hamill Says Lightsaber Prop Is Not As Rare As You Might Think

Caution Comes Prior To Hollywood Auction Featuring One Of The Items

When a screen-used lightsaber comes up for bids at a Profiles in History auction, it may be a legit prop, but it may not be as rare as the buyer might think.

That's the assessment of none other than Luke Skywalker himself. Mark Hamill told MSN that the item, which the auction house estimates may fetch as much as $150,000, may be a screen-used prop from "Episode IV- A New Hope", it is not a one-of-a-kind item.

Hamill has about 3 million followers on Twitter. The message they received from him said "Be Advised-There was no ONE lightsaber I used in the films, but many, MANY, both for myself & my stunt-double. Multiple duplicate back-up props are commonplace during production-When the handle ridges were cutting my hands, they even made a few w/ soft sponge ridges! #BuyerBeware."

Hamill has a track record of looking out for people who buy movie tickets, and those who collected memorabilia. He advocated for a California law that requires a certificate of authenticity for any autograph that sells for more than $5 that includes the name and address of the dealer, date, purchase price and any third-party ownership.

The auction, which also features several other Star Wars-related items, is set for December 11-13. Hamill, meanwhile, is working with director JJ Abrams on Episode IX, which is expected to be in theaters a year from now.
