United Airlines Engineers Reject Union

IFTPE Had Obtained The Organization Vote Through Mediation

United Airlines' and Continental Airlines' professional engineers and related employees rejected representation sought by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), the airline's holding company announced Tuesday.

"We are pleased that our co-workers recognized the value of our direct working relationship," said Ken Burtt, United's vice president technical services.  "Working together, we have a promising future, and we will now take steps to implement pay adjustments stalled by the representation and election issues."

The IFPTE filed a representation application with the National Mediation Board on June 30, 2011. There were 346 engineers and related employees eligible to participate in the election.
