Airborne 09.16.19: Wagstaff Mishap, SPA Girls In Aviation Day, Flight Design

Also: New Stemme CEO, Airline Bankruptcy, Avemco Executives, Director Of Langley Research Center

No one in aviation is immune to having to deal with mechanical issues... not even our good friend and Champion aerobatic pilot, Patty Wagstaff, who just had to deal with a sudden issue with her beloved Bonanza -- which, unfortunately got dinged up pretty good... but Patty and her fellow pilot are OK.

The famed air-show pilot was involved in an incident Wednesday in which her 1958 Beech K35 airplane was involved in a runway excursion and flipped over onto its back, according to local authorities. Local media made it sound like a massive accident, but the truth is simple... a mechanical failure put the aircraft off to the side of a runway, where it wound up inverted. Where is the next generation of pilots coming from? Well, with aviation currently being over 90% male, we hope that it will have a more equal ratio. A notable effort in that direction is being taken by The Sling Pilot Academy and their hosting of a Girls In Aviation Day on October 4th from 4-6 p.m. in its hangar. They are extending an open invitation to girls and their families to come out and spend a fun-filled day full of aviation activities. The event will be held at the Sling Pilot Academy facility in Torrance, CA. Participants can learn about airplanes and careers in aviation, tour the airport tower, and find out what it takes to become a pilot. Due to the recent improvement in the U.S. Dollar to Euro exchange rate, and the result of some pencil sharpening, Flight Design has announced a Special Autumn discount on its CT Super aircraft. “We are very interested in introducing the CT Super to the U.S. and Canadian pilot community” said Daniel Guenther, managing director of Flight Design General Aviation. The CT Super is the lighter performance model of the CT series, which was introduced at AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 in July. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
