TFR Issued For Greensboro, GA Bush Trip

Pilots operating in east-central Georgia need to pay extra attention to NOTAMs on Friday, June 20. The FAA has published a NOTAM establishing a 30-nm-radius temporary flight restriction (TFR) for President Bush's trip to Greensboro, Ga. It extends up to but not including 18,000 feet. The TFR is centered over the town of Greensboro, Ga., 23.4 nm from the Athens (AHN) VOR on the 162 radial, and will be in effect from 1720 local until 2010 local on June 20, 2003.

All aircraft operations within a 0-10 nm radius are prohibited, except as described in the NOTAM.

Aircraft operating within a 10-30 nm radius must be on an active IFR or VFR flight plan, must be in constant radio contact with air traffic control (ATC), and must be transmitting a discrete ATC-assigned transponder code. All aircraft operations are limited to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields, but ATC may authorize transit operations. Aircraft may not loiter.

ALL AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS WITHIN 10 NMR ARE PROHIBITED EXCEPT FOR: 1. LAW ENFORCEMENT AND MILITARY AIRCRAFT, DIRECTLY SUPPORTING THE THE UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE (USSS) AND THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES (POTUS), EMERGENCY MEDICAL FLIGHTS, AND REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMERCIAL PASSENGER AND CARGO AIRCRAFT THAT MEET OR EXCEED THE FAAS DOMESTIC SECURITY INSPECTION PROGRAM STANDARDS AND ARE ARRIVING INTO AND/OR DEPARTING FROM 14 CFR PART 139 AIRPORTS. 2. FOR OPERATIONS WITHIN THE TFR ALL MEDICAL FLIGHT OPERATION COMPANIES SHALL COORDINATE WITH THE USSS PRIOR TO THIS NOTAM GOING INTO EFFECT TO AVOID POTENTIAL DELAYS. END PART 1 OF 3 WIE UNTIL UFN

PART 2 OF 3 FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS GREENSBORO, GEORGIA B. WITHIN THE AIRSPACE BETWEEN 10 NMR AND 30 NMR: 1. ALL AIRCRAFT ENTERING OR EXITING THE 30 NM RADIUS TFR SHALL BE ON AN ACTIVE IFR OR VFR FLIGHT PLAN WITH A DISCRETE CODE ASSIGNED BY AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL (ATC) FACILITY. AIRCRAFT SHALL BE SQUAWKING THE DISCRETE CODE PRIOR TO DEPARTURE AND AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE TFR. 2. ALL AIRCRAFT ENTERING OR EXITING THE 30 NM RADIUS TFR MUST REMAIN IN TWO-WAY RADIO COMMUNICATIONS WITH ATC. 3. ALL AIRCRAFT OPERATING WITHIN THE 10 TO 30 NM RADIUS TFR AND OPERATING AT ALTITUDES OF UP TO BUT NOT INCLUDING FL180 ARE LIMITED TO AIRCRAFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING LOCAL AIRFIELDS AND ATC MAY AUTHORIZE TRANSIT OPERATIONS. AIRCRAFT MAY NOT LOITER. 4. FLIGHT TRAINING, PRACTICE INSTRUMENT APPROACHES, AEROBATIC FLIGHT, GLIDER OPERATIONS, PARACHUTE OPERATIONS, ULTRALIGHT, HANG GLIDING, BALLOON OPERATIONS AGRICULTURE/CROP DUSTING, ANIMAL POPULATION CONTROL FLIGHT OPERATIONS, BANNER TOWING OPERATIONS, COMMERCIAL CARGO CARRIER OPERATIONS THAT FAIL TO MEET OR EXCEED THE FAA'S DOMESTIC SECURITY INSPECTION PROGRAM STANDARDS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED. ALL U.S. SECRET SERVICE CLEARED AIRCRAFT OPERATORS BASED IN THE AREA SHOULD NOTIFY THE US SECRET SERVICE PRIOR TO THEIR DEPARTURE BY CALLING 706-467-2722 OR 3453. 6. ALL MEDICAL FLIGHT OPERATION COMPANIES SHALL COORDINATE WITH THE USSS PRIOR TO THIS NOTAM GOING INTO EFFECT TO AVOID POTENTIAL DELAYS WHEN THE NOTAM IS IN EFFECT. END PART 3 OF 3 WIE UNTIL UFN

Airports Impacted

Greene County Regional Airport (3J7) falls within the 0-10 nm ring and will effectively be closed to general aviation traffic for the duration of the TFR.

Madison Municipal (52A), Washington-Wilkes County (IIY), Athens/Ben Epps (AHN), Baldwin County (MLJ), and Monroe-Walton County (D73) airports all fall within the 10-30 nm ring and will need to follow the flight plan/"squawk-and-talk" rules outlined in the NOTAM.
