L-3 Lynx Receives AML STC Covering Numerous Helicopter Platforms

Covers Lynx Line Of ADS-B Products

The FAA has issued an Approved Model List (AML) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Part 27 rotorcraft to L-3 Aviation Products for the installation of its Lynx line of ADS-B products.

All Lynx models are covered under the rotorcraft AML STC, which includes the Lynx NGT-9000, NGT-2500, NGT-2000 and NGT-1000. L-3’s Lynx product line will be on display in L-3’s exhibit at the HAI Heli-Expo at the Kentucky Exposition Center March 1–3.

“L-3’s top-of-the-line Lynx NGT-9000 is an all-in-one solution for rotorcraft operators needing to replace their aging transponder while achieving ADS-B compliance,” said Larry Riddle, L-3 Aviation Products’ vice president of marketing and sales for General Aviation.

The NGT-9000 combines a touchscreen ADS-B transponder with a display for viewing ADS-B traffic and weather data in a single panel-mounted unit. This is important to helicopter operators, where panel space and weight are a concern. Many Lynx models offer the ability to Wi-Fi weather and data out to third-party iPad and Android pilot apps.

Active Traffic and Aural Alerting (ATAS) is an available option for the NGT-9000. A Wi-Fi interface module enables connectivity to iPad and Android devices with several popular flight apps. All Lynx MultiLink Surveillance System (MSS) models incorporate an embedded position source (WAAS-GPS) requiring no external GPS connections.

The following rotorcraft platforms are covered under the Lynx AML STC:

  • Agusta AB-102
  • Airbus Helicopters (Eurocopter) AS350, AS355, BO-105, EC120, EC130, EC135, EX130, EX135, Gazelle, SA341, SA342
  • Bell/Textron 47, 206, 407, 427, OH-58, OH-13
  • Enstrom 280, 480, F28, TH28
  • MD Helicopters 369, 500N, 600N
  • Robinson R22, R44, R66
  • Sikorsky 269 models

The Lynx NGT-9000 is a dual-mode 1090ES ADS-B Out plus 1090 and 978 ADS-B In device designed for 14 V or 28 V installations. L-3 NextGen Active Traffic is an available option that is integrated directly in the Lynx NGT-9000, eliminating the need for a remote box. The unit L-3 Lynx Receives AML STC Covering Numerous Helicopter Platforms displays NEXRAD graphical and textual weather, as well as moving maps. Up-to-the-minute Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and Winds and Temps Aloft data are also included.

A free app is available that simulates the Lynx touchscreen on iPad and Android tablets.
